Failed Payment Recovery · E-commerce & Retail
Turn failed card payments into paid invoices, politely
When Stripe can't collect an invoice, AI writes an email that fits the decline reason and the attempt, with the payment link. Final-attempt emails always wait for your approval.
Can't be bought yet: waiting for Stripe approval. It opens for purchase on its own once approved.
- Starts from an event in a connected app
- 1 AI step
- A person approves before it acts
- About 12 min to set up
Sound familiar?
The job, before and after this agent.
What it feels like today
- “Customers churn just because their card expired and nobody told them.”
- “Stripe's generic emails don't tell people what actually went wrong.”
- “We find out a big account's payment failed weeks later.”
What you get with the agent
- Starts the moment Stripe fails to collect an invoice and reads the decline reason (expired card, insufficient funds, authentication needed).
- AI drafts an email matched to the attempt and the reason, friendly at first and clear on the last try, with the payment page link and next retry date.
- Final-attempt emails always wait for your approval; you can choose to approve earlier ones too.
- Failures on accounts at or above your big-account amount are posted to Slack so someone can reach out.
Before
A customer's card expires. Stripe retries quietly, the subscription lapses, and you only notice when the revenue dips at month end.
After
The customer gets a clear email the same day: what failed, how to fix it and the link to pay. Your team sees the big ones in Slack, and you sign off the final notice yourself.
How it works
The whole workflow, step by step.
When Stripe fails to collect an invoice, the agent reads the customer's latest payment attempts for the decline reason (expired card, insufficient funds, authentication needed…). AI drafts an email matched to the attempt number and the reason — friendly at first, clear on the final attempt — with the invoice's payment page link and the next retry date, stating only consequences you've described. Final-attempt emails always wait for a person's approval (earlier ones too, if you choose); failures on big accounts are posted to Slack. It never retries charges, pauses service or changes subscriptions.

This is the workflow that opens in your workspace when you set the agent up. Every step can be edited.
- Step 1Invoice payment failed (Stripe)Starts the moment Stripe fails to collect an invoice (a declined card, a failed automatic retry or no saved payment method). Fluxo Flow adds the webhook to your Stripe account.
- Step 2Read the latest payment attemptsLists the customer's most recent payments in Stripe to find the decline reason of the failed attempt.
- Step 3Draft the dunning emailAI writes a friendly email matched to the attempt number and the decline reason, with the invoice's payment page, and decides whether it needs approval and whether the account is big enough to alert the team.
- Step 4Needs approval?Final-attempt emails (and earlier ones, if your billing settings say so) wait for approval; the rest are sent right away.
- Step 5Approve the final reminderA teammate checks the email in Reviews, edits it if needed and approves it.
- Step 6Email the customerSends the email with the payment page link, with replies going to your billing inbox.
- Step 7Big account?Failures on accounts at or above your big-account amount are posted to Slack.
- Step 8Alert the team in SlackPosts the customer, amount, attempt, reason and payment link to your billing channel.
- Step 9No alert neededBelow your big-account amount; the run history keeps it.

Example with fictional data
Comes in

The agent produces
Friendly email drafted: the card on file has expired, here's the secure payment page, next retry is Friday. Sent right away, with replies to your billing inbox.
What you need
Everything it takes to run it.
About 12 minutes from purchase to live. A checklist above the canvas takes you through each step.
Plan
Included in Enterprise; on other paid plans it's $99 once. Agents run live on paid plans, from Basic ($39/mo).
Your AI key
Connect any of 14 AI providers on your own key. Your provider bills usage directly, at cost; we add no markup.
Checklist
- A paid plan (agents run live on paid plans).
- An AI provider key (Settings → AI Providers).
- Stripe (a key that can read events and payments and add webhook endpoints) and Slack, connected in Settings → Integrations.
- Invoices with a customer email (Stripe Billing or Invoicing).
Setup, about 12 minutes
- Connect your AI provider. The AI steps run on your own key (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and more). Add one in Settings → AI Providers.
- Connect Stripe. Connect Stripe (Settings → Integrations → Stripe) with a restricted key that can read events and payments and write webhook endpoints.
- Connect Slack. Connect the Slack workspace your team uses (Settings → Integrations → Slack).
- Describe your billing. Open “Draft the dunning email” and replace the placeholder with your signer, consequences, big-account amount and approval choice.
- Pick your Stripe account. Pick your Stripe account on the trigger and on “Read the latest payment attempts”.
- Add your billing email address. Open “Email the customer” and enter the address customers should reply to.
- Pick the Slack account and channel. Open “Alert the team in Slack” and pick your account and channel. Invite the app to private channels first (/invite @Fluxo Flow).
- Test it with Dry Run. Press Dry Run: the agent runs on sample data with no messages sent and nothing written to your apps.
- Switch the trigger on. Open the trigger and activate it: Fluxo Flow adds a webhook endpoint to your Stripe account for failed invoice payments.
Is it a fit?
Who it's for, and what it won't do.
Built for
- Subscription businesses billing through Stripe
- Membership and box-subscription shops
- Small SaaS and service businesses with recurring invoices
What it doesn't do
- It never retries charges, pauses service, cancels or changes subscriptions — Stripe's own retry schedule and your team handle that.
- It doesn't send Stripe's own reminder emails or change your Stripe settings.
- It handles failed invoice payments only (not one-off checkout or payment-link failures).
We list the limits up front so you can decide before you buy.

FAQ
Questions about Failed Payment Recovery.
Will it say something wrong to a paying customer?
It only states consequences you've described, and the final-attempt email always waits for a person. You can require approval on every email, and Dry Run lets you test with sample data first.
Which apps does it need?
Stripe and Slack. The agent's page shows whether each app is ready to connect.
Does it retry charges or pause accounts?
No. Stripe's own retry schedule keeps running. Pausing service or changing a subscription stays with you.
Is it worth it?
Setup takes about 12 minutes, and it's a one-time purchase that never renews. You need a paid plan and your own AI key to run it live; Dry Run is free.
Does it retry the charge or pause the subscription?
No. Stripe's own retry schedule keeps running; the agent only emails the customer the payment page and alerts your team. Pausing service or changing a subscription stays with you.
Can I approve every email, not just the final one?
Yes. Say so in your billing settings (e.g. “Earlier emails need approval: yes”) and every email waits in Reviews.
Is this a subscription?
No. Failed Payment Recovery is a one-time purchase of $99 per workspace and never renews. The Enterprise plan includes it at no extra cost. Running it live needs a paid plan (from Basic ($39/mo)), and your AI provider bills you directly for usage.
Can I test it before it touches real data?
Yes. Once it's set up in your workspace, Dry Run plays every step on sample data with simulated AI and app calls: nothing is sent and nothing in your apps changes. Switch the trigger on only when you're happy.
Failed Payment Recovery is almost ready.
